Spring Break

Spring Break is basically when all schools let out for week. Its never really at the same time but its about the same time of year. Mine is going to be the week of March 6th. I know some of the northern school have there in like April.

Anyways as you might have guessed school is out and all the party people go crazy and a lot from around here head to Florida or other famous places like salmon going up river to mate! I've never really done it. Did it once and didn't really like it. Went with my friends back in HS to Panama City Beach in Florida and man, tried to cruise up the strip and could not move. People just running around going crazy, cops everywhere and the place was packed. I remember we
ended up just parking the car and walking back to our hotel and chilled there. Then found out that someone had died that night after falling off a balcony from one of the other schools in my county. Then the next night someone got mugged outside our hotel. Really I don't see what the big deal is, but then again I am not much of a get all drunk and party till I die type of guy.

But if you have ever seen any of them girls gone wild videos and stuff that is usually when that takes place. Really anything that you have seen with a mass of college/High School age American on TV going crazy was more then luckily in Florida or Condon Mexico.

You know, something similar happened to my buddy last year. We were like partying somewhere else. Early in the morning we decided to go home...man, it took a while till we got there. When we arrived back home our jaws dropped and we just couldn't say a word. Three guys were sitting in my buddy's kitchen and were having' breakfast. We didn't know them at all. The first thing we thought (and I tell you we thought it together at the same time) was 'what the...?!'The one guy asked us to sit down and join them saying' 'my home's your home, dude'. He was speaking English...I mean, how many Germans speak English that perfect?
Man, we couldn't believe he was saying' it. Then I started to think if we really were at my buddy's...but we WERE!

We didn't call the cops or something but sat down and had a breakfast. We were shocked and didn't even think about calling the cops. Then the one guy invited us to join a party next week. They turned out to be DJs who came to Germany to take part in the House Session or some sort. The next day one of them dropped by and gave us VIP tickets for the House Session. When I think about it I have to laugh at me and my buddy. We must have looked like stupid idiots when we saw those three guys sitting' there and eating. It's kind of happy end story for we became friends. They've visited us several times already and invited us to visit them in Florida this year. They mentioned some kind of spring break...I don't know what that is as they just said: just wait and you'll see.

I am pleased to report that we have found fantastic riding in each and every state that we have ventured through. I happen to enjoy cycling in the western half of the country because of the vast off-road possibilities and the large number of cyclists. The southern states, however, have their parks and open spaces areas that are well worth exploring. One of my favorite rides last year was in the Myakka River State Park in Florida. The wildlife there was truly incredible! Having grown up on the West Coast, it was very exciting for me to view alligators from my Ibis! I have always enjoyed mountain bike riding in California during the winter months, but I realize that a large percent of the cycling population is unable to ride during that time because of the weather conditions. For those of you who find yourselves off the bike or staring out the window from on top of your rollers, may I suggest taking a trip down to Baja.
